Discussion questions
Download the discussion questions (PDF) or see them listed below. We highly encourage you to listen, think, and talk about the sermon. These are questions you can reflect on by yourself, with your family, or with your small group.
- Why do you think people throughout history from every tribe and culture have a creation story?
- The Bible describes God as eternal, self existent, and unique; there are no other gods besides Him. God is all powerful, He has all authority, and He is absolutely good. Understanding this about God, why do you think He made us? Does God need us? How does understanding ‘why’ He made us, help us with ‘how’ we live
- With a word, God created the heavens and the earth. He spoke and there was light. God ‘says’, and suddenly, it is. What is the ‘science’ behind all of this? Describe the secular scientist’s response to a six day creation. What should the Christian’s response be to the secularist who dismisses the Genesis account of creation as foolish nonesense?
- Verse 26 of Genesis chapter 1, ‘jumps out’ at the reader when it describes the creation of man. What makes mankind so unique amongst God’s creation? How should this view of man impact the way we treat others, and influence the way we view human life?
- God revels in His creation. After everything He made, He declared, “it is good”. Why do you think everything God makes is good? How has mankind warped and marred the goodness of God’s creation? What do you think John Calvin meant when he ssid, “the human heart is an idol factory”?
- From the very beginning God had a plan to bring about salvation to idolatrous sinners. What is included in that plan and what does it tell us about God?
